Same Title, Different Movies: ‘Blurred Lines’

Once in a while,  you  see a trailer for a movie whose name instills a sense of déjà vu because you’ve seen it before, not the same content, but certainly the same title.

Reports show that over 250 films the world over have same titles.

In Nollywood, you might assume this doesn’t happen frequently, you’d be surprised to know that this occurs  quite often.

BLURRED LINES

In two years, three African filmmakers have titled their movie ‘ Blurred Lines’.

First up is Ghanaian short film, Blurred Lines  which was selected as one of the top 10 films at the 2014  Afrinolly short film competition held in Nigeria. The film which stars Francis Anderson, studio53 presenter, Sika Osei and Edward Agyekum Kufour was written and directed by Ben Je.

In September 2013, entertainment powerhouse AfricaMagic announced the creation of its AfricaMagic Original Films (AMOF) initiative, an ambitious project that would see the pioneering brand invest to create dozens of brand new films. On June 15th  2014, Africa Magic aired it’s own ‘ Blured Lines’ which was directed by Patience  Oghre, Imhobio. It featured IK Ogbonna, Juliet Ibrahim, and Bassey Ekpenyong.

The latest ‘Blurred Lines’ is Pascal Amanfo’s  new movie Staring: Eddie Watson jr,  Seun Akindele,  Esther Audu and Bassey Ekpeyong (who also starred in the ‘Blurred Lines’ by Africa Magic) .
