Ufuoma McDermott came on the entertainment scene when she emerged as the first runner-up at the annually held Miss Nigeria beauty pageant. Following this achievement, she branched out into acting and has become an established Nollywood star.
The show that took Ufuoma’s across the globe was “My Mum and I”. Her performance as Lillian Wrighton on the drama produced by Royal Roots earned her title of Nollywood’s most promising actress that year by several movie critics. The success of the TV programme scored her a nomination at the 2010 Monte Carlo TV Festival Golden Nymph Awards in the Outstanding Actress (comedy) category and at the 2011 Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA) in the Best actress in TV series/reality show category.
